Bengal allots Rs.450 crore for medical colleges revamp


Kolkata, Jan 4 (IANS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Friday announced the overhauling of three state-run medical colleges at an estimated cost of Rs.450 crores.

The state government will also facilitate the availability of essential medicines and diagnostic services "free of cost to rural people in government-run health centres and hospitals".

"I am also happy to share with you that Bankura Medical College, Malda Medical College and North Bengal Medical College will soon be upgraded at an estimated cost of Rs.450 crore and facilities of trauma care, specialised services in areas like oncology, nephrology, endocrinology, paediatric surgery and more will be provided," Banerjee said on her official Facebook page.

"This is in addition to the 35 multi/super-specialty hospitals that we are already building to boost the health infrastructure facilities in the state."
