Mangalore, May 9: The Bajpe police have successfully solved the chain-snatching case that took place on Saturday May 6 here.
The accused, Mitradas and Harish Kumar were nabbed near Yekkur when they were on their way to Mangalore. The police have recovered the gold chain that was stolen and the motorcycle that was used for the crime.
On May 6 at 5 pm, Mitradas and Harish Kumar robbed a woman of a gold chain in the pretext of asking for an address.
While in a hurry to get away, one of them happened to drop his mobile phone. The woman immediately lodged a complaint at the police station. The accused were soon traced with the help of the mobile phone.
On Monday May 8, the police picked the two culprits near Yekkur. On searching, Rs. 17,200/- and a receipt in the name of AKG Finance were found. Further investigation at the finance company, located here at Bendoorwell, revealed that the culprits had pledged the gold chain for Rs 18,600 on the day of the crime. The proprietor of the finance company, Alfons Rodrigues was also arrested on the charge of receiving stolen property.
The accused have been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
