Ensure women journalists' safety: Prasar Bharati chief


Kolkata, Jan 10 (IANS): Prasar Bharati chairperson Mrinal Pande Friday said employers need to make sure women journalists travel safely during the course of their work.

"It's the employers' responsibility that women reporters get proper facilities in terms of conveyance so that they can travel safely... also reaching home safely," said the noted television personality, journalist and author at a panel discussion "A Room of One's Own" at the ongoing Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival 2014 here.

A 22-year-old woman photojournalist was raped by five men in an abandoned textile mill complex in central Mumbai after her male colleague was beaten and bound Aug 22.

Speaking at the session, Pande, the daughter of acclaimed Hindi novelist Shivani, said determined women somehow manage to create spaces for themselves where they can work and give shape to their ideas.

"Women who are driven always find their own space ... I have seen my mother do it."
