AAP ignoring corruption allegations against Congress: Jaitley

New Delhi, Jan 10 (IANS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley Friday attacked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), saying it was not making any reference to allegations of corruption against the Congress party and instead deflecting the attention to petty matters.

"The AAP is trying to alter the corruption agenda. There is no reference to corruption allegations which can embarrass the Congress. It is not mentioning the CWG scam, the 2G spectrum allocation, coal block allocation or corruption by the Sheila Dikshit government. It is deflecting the attention to petty corruption," he said in his blog.

Calling the AAP as a party born out of a reaction, he said the performance of the AAP-led Delhi government, after the assembly results, has not been too inspiring.

"It has no agenda to evolve Delhi into a global city. Its (AAP's) Delhi activities have centred around the vehicles in which ministers travel, kind of houses they occupy, freebies they can distribute, how to sting people and other similar activities intended to get media coverage.

"Some of these symbolisms may be important but they do not improve the quality of life of ordinary citizens. These gimmicks do not have a lasting impact," added Jaitley.

Further stepping up his attack on the Congress, he said the journey of the party in the recent past has been from arrogance towards extinction.

"Its senior leaders are a despondent lot. Its strategy of promoting the AAP in Delhi has only led it to occupy the Congress space. There is hardly a state where the Congress is capable of improving its tally for the Lok Sabha. Its final tally (in the 2014 general elections) may touch a surprising rock bottom," he said.
