Four arrested in Hyderabad for rape of Mumbai dancer

Hyderabad, Jan 11 (IANS): Police said Saturday they have arrested four men for the gang rape of a dancer from Mumbai on New Year Eve.

The accused were arrested after police identified them with the help of CCTV footage of an ATM while withdrawing money using the debit card of the victim.

The girl, who was called from Mumbai to perform at a New Year party, was drugged and raped by the accused on the night of Dec 31 and Jan 1.

She realized this after reaching Mumbai and lodged a complaint with police in Andheri.

The victim alleged that one Ali along with three others received her at the airport Dec 31 and took her to a house where she was served a soft drink mixed with drugs.

The accused allegedly raped her and took away her ATM card and withdrew the money using the PIN number saved on her mobile. The young woman said she regained consciousness after reaching Mumbai by bus.

The Central Crime Station (CCS) in Hyderabad took up the investigation after Rakshita (name given by police) reached her Friday and recorded her statement. Four teams were formed to track down the culprits.

The investigation revealed that the accused, after receiving her at the airport, took her to a house in Toli Chowki where they drugged and raped her.

The victim told police that an event manager, Happy, contacted her for performing at a party in Hyderabad, promised to Rs.1 lakh and arranged the air ticket.
