Mumbai: Interactive session on philosophy held at WRCI auditorium

Mumbai, Jan 14: At the joint aegis of Kannada department of Mumbai University, Kanakadasa Research Center of Mangalore University, central Sahitya Academy – New Delhi, Laxmi Chaya Vichara Vedike – Mumbai and Vyasaraya Ballal Foundation, Kanaka philosophy interactive programme was held at WRCI auditorium, Kalina campus, Santacruz (East) here on Saturday January 11.
 
Mumbai Univesity head of department of Kannada Dr G N Upadhya presided the programme here on Saturday.

 
Mangalore University Kanaka Research Center  correspondent and veteran scholar Professor Shivaram B Shetty was the chief guest of the occasion.
 
The metro’s renowned litterateur Ravi Ra Anchan delivered the lecture on the occasion.
 
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Shivaram Shetty said that he was happy that the general awareness on Kannada is growing in the metro than motherland Karnataka.  Although, the ideology of the contemporary poet and psalmist Kanakadas is a challenge in twenty-first century; its indeed leading the nation to equality in the society, said Professor Shetty.
 
Raavi Anchan said that Kanakadasa is one amongst the 5 greatest poets who explored poetry out of constant learning.  He took challenges of life in spite of he was blessed with extraordinary talent.  He was humble enough to set limit on his elevated ego.  He tried to bring about equality among the higher class and lowly in praise and worship of Lord in Sri Krishna mutt.  Twelfth century was the era of psalmist in Kannada literature, while sixteenth century was the glorious era of Dasa literature.  He narrates water is essential to sustain mankind, said Anchan.
 
Dr G N Upadhya in his presidential address said that Kanakadas dreamt about equality in society but was in a dilemma to face the challenges of Vyasa’s followers and Dasa’s followers.  He became a staunch devotee of Sri Krishna whom he pleased with his beloved poetry deeply touching mankind, said Dr Upadhya.  
 
The programme began with the unveiling of paintings of renowned artist Devdas Shetty.

The veteran poet and litterateur B S Kurkal presided the second programme.


The dignitaries released Dr G N Upadhya authored books ‘Vyasaraya Ballala part and part 2, anthology by B S Kurkal – Kaviratna Kayyara and Devdas Shetty authored book ‘My life painted in a canvas’ on the same occasion.

 
Chandra Joshi, Dr Eshwar Alevoor and Niranjan C S read the foreword.  Sridar Mysore offered information on e-book.
 
B S Kurkal spoke about the lifetime achievements of Kayyara Kinhanna Rai.
 
Ballal Founbdation chief trustee Arvind Ballal, Shimunje Parari and others were present on the occasion.
 
Poornima Shetty welcomed the gathering.  Susheela S Devadiga rendered the prayers.  Vidushi Shyamala Prakash read Gamaka vachana. Chandra Joshi compered the programme.  Durgappa Kote proposed vote of thanks.
