Mumbai, Aug 18: A 35-year-old bank employee was booked for attempt to murder after he allegedly pulled the trigger of an air gun during a dispute over delayed medicine delivery at his Mumbai flat, police said on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Saurabh Kumar, reportedly suffers from insomnia. He had ordered medicines from a Lower Parel chemist around midnight on Friday. When the delivery was delayed, an argument broke out with the delivery person in the early hours of Saturday.
According to police, Kumar refused to accept the medicines and locked his flat. The delivery person kept knocking on the door, which enraged him. “Kumar then emerged with an air rifle and pulled the trigger while the complainant’s back was facing the door. A loud sound was heard, but no one was injured,” an official said.
The delivery person immediately alerted police control room. A team from N M Joshi Marg police station rushed to the spot and registered a case. Kumar was booked under attempt to murder provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita as well as the Arms Act.
Police said the air gun was empty but still generated a loud sound when fired. Further investigation is in progress.
