Danish woman gang raped, robbed in Delhi

New Delhi, Jan 15 (IANS): A 51-year-old Danish woman was robbed and raped by a group of men near the New Delhi railway station, police said Wednesday.

The Danish woman, who came to India Jan 1, had gone to visit a museum Tuesday evening but lost her way to her hotel in Paharganj, a tourist hub in the heart of Delhi.

Around 4 p.m. a group of men lured her to an isolated spot where she was robbed of her iPad and cash and then raped by six men, one of who had a knife, police said.

She was kept hostage for more than three hours, and somehow reached her hotel around 7 p.m.

A police officer told IANS that the woman was "highly traumatised" when she reached the police station. "She was bruised on her face and neck."

The manager of her hotel called the police around 9.30 p.m. Police said several suspects have been detained for questioning.

"They are all vagabonds," the official said.

The Danish embassy has been informed and the woman is expected to leave for Denmark Wednesday.

According to police, the woman -- who had returned to Delhi Monday after visiting Agra -- has said she will return to India to depose if needed.

This is the second incident of its kind Delhi Police have reported within a fortnight.

A 33-year-old Polish woman was allegedly raped by a cab driver and abandoned near the Nizamuddin railway station Jan 3.

The woman had been reportedly offered a ride in cab when she was on her way to Delhi with her two year-old-daughter from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, police had said.

The victim, a Lord Krishna devotee, said she was raped by the driver on the Mathura-Delhi highway.

The driver reportedly "sprayed something" on her face that made her lose consciousness.

She realised she had been assaulted sexually when she found herself on a bench outside the Nizamuddin railway station in south Delhi, with her daughter crying beside her.

    So true Jossy.

When Congress was ruling Delhi, people were on the road saying it's because of Congress' bad policies that rapes are taking place. Where are very wagging tongues now ?

Nevertheless, what else we Indians are capable of apart from causing shame to ourselves by incidents such as this ?

Joseph Mangalore, BJP along with its affiliated organizations is hell bent to defame Congress and AAP throughout India. BJP is shivering due to the popularity of AAP supported by Congress. BJP and its affiliated organizations should educate its jobless goonda supporters instead of spilling venom towards minority to gain majority support. Most of the educated majority who love peace have recognized true color of BJP and distance themselves from communal, selfish BJP. Mind your language and do not threaten anyone to be careful who are making sensible statements. Jai Hind

    Baby & Joseph,

Mine and Jossy's message was to convey that any government cannot be held responsible for rape - its the people of India who think that a woman is as cheap as a rag. Else, they won't touch a woman may she be a foreigner or an Indian. Well, these evil minded people not only target grown ups, they don't even spare children. Given present circumstances, I wonder what pride is there being called an Indian at all !

Actually, first we must establish respect for each other irrespective of gender - next is blaming the government !
