Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (EP)

Bangalore, Jan 15: This year’s Basavashree Award was presented to Malala Yousafzai, internationally known activist for women's rights and children's education in Pakistan.

The award was presented by Sri Murugha math of Chitradurga to Malala in London on January 9. The award consisted Rs five lacs prize money, a citation, plaque, shawl and garland.

Dr Shivamurthi Muruga who spoke to media on Tuesday, January 14 at Chitradurga, said that Malala cannot come to India due to security reasons.  However it was possible to present the award to Malala due to constant communication with the office of Ziauddin, father of Malala. She was happy to receive them, said the Swamiji.

He further said, "As we travelled from London to the residence of Malala family, Malala's mother invited us in and Malala spoke to us with such hospitality that we felt as though we are at the house of a devotee.

"Malala said the relationship between India and Pakistan should improve, and lamented that though people of these countries love each other, it has weakened due to some reasons.”

The Swamiji further said that when he asked if she would return home after her studies, Malala replied she would be going to Pakistan to try and solve problems of poverty, ignorance and beggary.

"Malala loves India like the way she loves Pakistan. She is proud of the culture and harmony in the country. She appreciated Aamir Khan’s social concern, enthusiasm of tennis star Sania Mirza, achievements of Shabana Azmi, Kiran Bedi and Anna Hazare," said the Swamiji.

He wished that Malala would become a great leader like Indira Gandhi, Margaret Thacher or Benazir Bhutto.

Sounds good without looking the religion, people are awarded and Obviously Malala deserves it all.

After seeing many comments on Daiji recent days if this was given by any christian pastor/priest it would have been told they awarded to convert her. Since Dr. Shivamurthi Muruga is a Hindu, there is no problem. Hindu priest allowed in London to give an award. Indian Hindus learn something from this.

Presentation of award to Malala by Sri Murugha Math, an Indian religious institution, is highly appreciable and is a matter of pride to the nation, a very good indication of tolerance and broad-mindedness on the part of the presenters. The cash prize is part of the award and hence she deserves it. Hope the money will be fruitfully utilized by Malala for the betterment of the poor in her country, more so it will also help her in realizing her own dreams.

In North Karnataka the Govt has opened many Urdu medium schools to please the minority vote bank even though good Kannada Medium schools were available there.
Unfortunately the majority of these Urdu Schools are only for Boys. Very few Urdu schools encourage girls to take admission. Does Malala know this gender discrimination in Urdu schools in Karnataka itself, which is conferring her Basavashri Award?.
In Bijapur district the mother tongue of the Muslim community is Kannada and not Urdu. Even then this group is slowly moving towards Urdu medium instead of mother tongue Kannada medium.

Swamiji...soldiers' families who lost their brave sons are more deserving than Malala. There are many countries and donors helped Malala all over the world. There is a bad rumor about his father who is greedy and selfish. God only knows the truth.

It was a good decision to award Malala to Show the Courage of a woman to set against the People who are against the education of women.she is a brave woman(Girl)has the Quality of becoming a great Person one day.when one hears her speech and Courage how she talks one can only be a admirer.well honoring with Money doesn't mean that she is not having Money but a gesture of honor.certainly she may use or give out left to her.on the other side so many women in India are suffering Today with this rape, disease.Thatswhy If this Swamiji try to fight against These cases will be a great help to us Indians. No day goes without a Report of rape case mostly gang rapes. That's why I beg not only for Malala but our country's women to set to save.

    Rita, Germany,
The Basavashree Award has been awarded in the past to prominent Indian women like Shabana Azmi, Kiran Bedi and PT Usha. Hope in future the same will be awarded to one of the bold and courageous victims of rape / sexual harassment also, without any kind of discrimination.

Danish Bai, Here My intention is not divide the human heart, but of-course here am dividing the Border.

"Appreciating" and given the Award to Malala is a good decision but why Cash Prize? I think she is not suffering on money. We should utilize this money for needy poor people who actually suffered a lot. We should first build a strong relation with our close neighbors rather than Border neighbor.

This is a nice gesture from Swami. Malala is a brave girl as she faced Taliban bullets because of her support to girls' education. She deserves, more and more awards. The best thing about her is even after the bullet wound on her head, she still support women/Child education. Malala, May god bless you and make u strong day by day. We Indians' all with you.

    Swamiji,

If you have a spare award,,, please give one to Mulla Omar of Taliban as well...

When the Americans leave Afghanistan in 2014,,, Taliban will take full control of Afghanistan shortly,,, most likely they will rule in Pakistan as well....

So overall it's a good idea to be in safer side to award it to Mulla Omar(One eyed Sheikh) of Taliban as well....
