President condoles journalist's death

New Delhi, Jan 15 (IANS): President Pranab Mukherjee Wednesday condoled the death of veteran journalist Ranen Mookherjee, describing him as a voracious reader and author.

In a condolence message, Mukherjee recalled his personal relations with the deceased.

"I knew Shri Ranen Mukherjee from the 1960s and he was a close family friend of me and my family in all these years."

"He was not only an eminent journalist but also a voracious reader and an author. His book on the liberation struggle of Bangladesh is well documented and narrates many important aspects of the freedom movement in Bangladesh culminating in its liberation in 1971," the president said.

Veteran freedom fighter and renowned journalist Mookherjee, who wrote several popular books on Bangladesh politics as also biographies of political leaders under the pen name Krittivas Ojha, died Tuesday following old age complications. He was 86.
