Shinde asks police to hasten probe into Sunanda death

New Delhi, Jan 20 (IANS): Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde Monday said he has asked Delhi Police to expedite the investigation into the death of Sunanda Pushkar, wife of union minister Shashi Tharoor.

"He (Tharoor) has written to me for an expeditious probe. I have already talked to the people concerned and they are doing it," Shinde told reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi Monday.

Tharoor Sunday wrote a letter to Shinde, urging him to issue instructions for expediting the probe into the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar, who was found dead in a hotel room Jan 17.

Tharoor said he was "horrified to read the reckless, rampant speculation" in the media. The union minister of state for human resource development offered his full cooperation in the probe into the death of his 52-year-old wife, and said the truth should emerge at the earliest.

Doctors Saturday said Pushkar died an "unnatural, sudden death," and her body bore "injury marks".
