Himachal may witness heavy snow


Shimla, Jan 20 (IANS): Moderate to heavy snowfall may occur across Himachal Pradesh in the next three days, the Met office here said Monday.

The hills of Shimla, Kullu, Sirmaur, Chamba, Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts are likely to experience heavy to very heavy snowfall and rain Wednesday, the meteorological office said in a statement.

It added that the western disturbances - storm systems originating from the Caspian Sea and moving across the Afghanistan-Pakistan region - would remain active in the region till Jan 23.

Most of the prominent tourist towns like Shimla, Narkanda, Kufri, Kalpa, Dalhousie and Manali are likely to have light to moderate spells of snowfall from Tuesday, Met officers said.

Bharmaur in Chamba district was the coldest place in the state with a low of minus 11 degrees Celsius Monday.

Shimla recorded the minimum temperature at 4.1 degrees Celsius while it was minus 10.8 degrees in Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district, minus 2.6 degrees in Manali and 6 degrees in Dharamsala.
