Hassan, May 15: A blast that took place on Monday morning in a house near a temple on Sainath Road in Subhasnagar in Arsikere near here took toll of six lives, leaving four houses in a shambles.
The blast is said to have taken place around 4-45 in the morning. The casualties have been identified as Manju, Praveen, Gunda, Venkatesh, Rudramma and a three-year-old child Chintana. The sixth person was not identified until the last reports came in.
Initial reports said there was a cache of fireworks stacked in the house. Enquiries later revealed that there were mno signs of any fireworks in the house. So an electrical short circuit is suspected to have caused the fire. Yet the sound of a blast is puzzling the neighbours and the police.
The walls had collapsed and some bodies were found stuck in the debris. JCB earth movers were used to drag them out of the mud piles.
