Myanmar pledges to ensure children's rights


Yangon, Jan 22 (IANS): The Myanmar National Committee on the Rights of Child has pledged to ensure and protect the rights of children in the nation, state media reported Wednesday.

The government has been making efforts to guarantee such rights which are cited as the rights to survive, to develop to the fullest, to protect them from harmful influence, abuse and exploitation and to participate fully in family, cultural and social life, committee chairman Daw Myat Myat Ohn Khin said, Xinhua reported.

Daw Myat Myat Ohn Khin, who is also minister of social welfare, relief and resettlement, told the committee that at present, Myanmar Child Law-1993 is being amended in the interest of children, and the Plan of Action for Children 2006-2015 is being implemented.
