Sri Lanka police search for alleged rapist


Colombo, Jan 27 (IANS): Police in Sri Lanka are searching for a man who allegedly raped an Australian tourist.

Police in Ambalangoda in south Sri Lanka are searching for a tourist guide who an Australian National University student touring this country has alleged raped her, the online Colombo Page newspaper reported Sunday.

The victim is part of a group of 15 Australian students who are in the country to conduct some studies.

While authorities said the victim would be subjected to a medical test, police said the suspect has fled from the area and an island-wide search operation is on to arrest him.
