Sullia, May 22: Senior BJP leader and taluk panchayat vice president A S Vijaykumar (50) was killed in unfortunate circumstances here on Sunday May 21 evening.

Vijaykumar along with some neighbours and labourers was cutting a big tree near his house.  Since the tree was very big, a rope was tied to the top of the tree to pull it in a particular direction as the workers cut it.  But the tree fell in the other direction.  Vijaykumar who was holding the rope was pulled along with the tree.

He hit himself against the tree and sustained serious injuries. Though he was rushed to the hospital immediately, he had breathed his last by then.

Vijaykumar had played a major role in strengthening BJP in the taluk.  If BJP possesses a stronghold in the taluk today, then it has to owe a lot to Vijakumar for this.  He had rendered his selfless services in building BJP in the taluk.  In the last taluk panchayat elections, he was elected from the Jalsoor seat and was unanimously elected as the taluk panchayat vice president.

He was also an active social activist in the area. He was the Ajjavar gram panchayat president.  He was also the president of CA Bank and at the time of his death he was one of the directors of CA Bank.  He was also in the directorial board of DCC Bank.  He was a businessman and owned Ambika Oil Mill.

The last rites will be held on Monday May 22.  He is survived by wife and a son.
