Bangalore, May 23: The Jana Shatabdi train plying from herere to Hubli hit a tipper in Haveri District resulting in loss of seven lives.
A tipper which was transporting six labourers and a child to a hospital in Byadagi for treatment was hit by the train at a unmanned level crossing at 11th Cross in Chatra village while it attempted to cross the railway lines, caused this fatal accident.
The critically-wounded tipper driver Hanumantappa has been admitted to the local Byadagi hospital. The tipper is damaged beyond repairs. All the seven passengers in the tipper including five women and a four-year-old child met their death on the spot.
Byadagi MLA Nehru Olekar who visited the site blamed the Railway authorities for the accident and said that repeated petitions to the Railways to man this level-crossing has been fallen on deaf ears.
He further said that two fatal accidents had taken place at this spot in the past, but the Railway authorities have refused to take note of this.
