Several shocks were in store for students who had taken French and students of Computer Science. All the students who attempted the French exam were declared ‘Failed’ and the students were given Zero marks in the computer practical exams. This created commotion at the college which was later found out to be a ‘software fault’.

The Hindu Adds:

Discrepancies' in PU results leave students a worried lot

Colleges in the city have reported discrepancies in the pre-university examination results, which were announced on Monday.

Discrepancies have been reported in the internal assessment marks for French, Hindi, computer science and practicals. Some who have taken French as second language have not got their results yet.

Fr. Swebert D'Silva, principal of St. Aloysius Pre-University College, said that many of the students who had taken French as second language had got only single-digit marks. This was highly improbable, he said.

Owing to this, 35 students had failed despite having scored high marks in other subjects. Fr. D'Silva told The Hindu that there was definitely some computer error while scanning the marks.

In computer science, there was no entry for internal assessment in the case of 150 students, he said.

The marks secured in the pre-university examinations held the key to seeking higher education. They had been now left at the crossroads, Fr. D'Silva said.

Shock:

Many teachers have expressed shock over the marks for French, Hindi, computer science, and practicals, particularly in internal assessment.

In St. Agnes girls' P.U. college, 17 students who had taken French as second language gave not got their results in any subject, principal Sister Lynette said. Fr. D'Silva said he had spoken to the secretary of the Director for PU Education. The official had asked the students to apply for either re-valuation or re-totalling, paying Rs. 500, he said. Many other pre-university colleges are facing the same problem.
