Mumbai, Feb 16: The second annual celebration of REACH (Ready to Educate and Accept Challenges of Humanity) got off to an auspicious start at the Holy Cross Convent School grounds on Sunday February 2.
A social and welfare association comprising of enthusiastic people of Mira Bhayander Muncipal Corporation is known for their creative and innovative works.
The ritual of lighting the lamp was conducted by Fr Amruth Fonseca Provincial Capuchins, Sr Jessy principal of Holy Cross Convent School, Sr Rita Carvalho, manager of Snehlaya Special School, Lawrence Castelino, flanked by Austin Menezes, president and Helen D'souza, Merlyn D'sa Vice Presidents of REACH set the tone for the evening entertainment program.
Sr Cecilia Kokya accompanied by the children of Ankur Children's Home led with prayers. The president Austin Menezes welcomed the gathering and in his address outlined the purpose of the celebration.
The program aimed to raise resources for REACH which has taken responsibility to provide MID- Day Meals to the poor (street) students of Holy Cross Open School. The Goal also included providing financial assistance to Snehlaya Special School based in Mira Road (E).
The distribution of wheel chairs and crutches to the less privileged was also on the agenda.
The entertainment program comprised an orchestra by RK Musical group which featured a mix of Old & New Hindi Songs. The highlight of the occasion was the performance by the students of Holy Cross Open School and Snehlaya who kept the audience of 1800 swinging and clapping in their seats.
Michael Fernandes and the members of REACH enthralled the crowds with the Konkani song " Jivitantre Munxea" taken from Wilfy Collection.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Merlyn D'sa to bring an end to an eventful and memorable evening.
