Sushma, a resident of Malad, had left for the market at 6 pm. When she did not return even after an hour, the family got worried.
They searched for her till the next morning and then lodged a complaint at Dindoshi police station.
“The cops filed a missing person case, when we kept asking them to file a kidnapping case. They refused to listen,” said Jhagdu Kanojia, the girl’s father.
Since then, Jhagdu has visited the police station every day to ask about the status of the case but didn’t get any positive response.
However, last night at around 11.30 pm, they received a call from an unidentified person asking for a ransom of Rs 1 lac.
“The caller told me that Sushma will be dropped at a nearby junction, once the amount is delivered. We don’t have that kind of money. We want the police to trace the call,” said Jhagdu.
However, the family claims the police remain laidback, as they believe Sushma wasn’t kidnapped, but ran away from home.
