Ranchi, Feb 21 (IANS): The Jharkhand government Friday tabled a Rs.2,184.58 crore deficit budget for the 2014-15 financial year.

Jharkhand Finance Minister Rajendra Singh tabled the Rs.50,387.70 crore budget that includes a plan budget of Rs.26,754.97 crore.

The state will spend 17.21 percent on education, 14.04 percent on rural development, 6.32 percent on energy, 6.57 percent for social security, and 5.22 percent on public health.

"This budget is planned for the poor. The state will get new seven medical colleges with participation of different public sector units," Singh told reporters after presenting the budget.

For people, the government has increased treatment cost in 29 hospitals from Rs.1.50 lakh per person to Rs.2.50 lakh for 17 diseases.

"We have also made provision to increase power production up to 2,000 MW in the state," Singh said.

To promote ancillary industries in the state, the government has cut taxes on motor parts from 10 percent to 5 percent.

The state government is likely to generate Rs.43,443.75 crore during the fiscal, which will be 17 percent higher than the current financial year.

The opposition parties, however, said the budget lacked "direction".
