New Delhi, Jun 1: Newly appointed West Indian psychologist of the Indian cricket team, now on a tour of Caribbean, Dr Rudy Webster suggested the super star status was affecting the performance of the side.
The Indian team management is availing the services of the renowned psychologist for last six days after they lost their first one-day series in last nine months.
"This is a common syndrome as well. Super star status puts one under pressure. The same happened to (Brian) Lara in his early days, and I always used to say to prepare him for the challenges that he would face in the early part of his career.
"Youngsters have got to learn this balance and remember that cricket comes first. We have to make players understand, to keep their feet on the ground and remain focused. They have to be made to understand their superstardom is because of their game, so remain focussed," Webster said in an interview with a television channel.
Asked what roadmap he had prepared for the team after spending six-days with it, Webster said he would deal separately with each player.
"You get the best result from one on one, they are better. People generally do not open in groups in the Indian team... One on one is the best as you are able to get to the meat of the matters. Players are able to express their concerns which they are reluctant to express otherwise," he said.
