NDMC helps women to empower themselves


New Delhi, March 9 (IANS): The NDMC is offering a variety of vocational and other courses to women, some for free, in a bid to empower them, its chairman Jalaj Shrivastava said Sunday.

He said training was available for sewing, embroidery, needle work, stenography in English and Hindi, dress designing, textile designing and hair dressing at the Women Technical Institute run at Netaji Nagar here.

The NDMC-run institute also ran courses for computer operators and programme assistants, cookery as well as catering and home management, he said in a statement.

Music and dance classes were also offered at the institute.

Shrivastava said there was no fee for these courses barring the one for music and dance, where too the fees was nominal - between Rs.60 and Rs.100 a month.

The NDMC also runs 50 centres in the capital where women were trained in art and craft, tailoring and embroidery.

The fees for these courses are Rs.30 a month for embroidery and Rs.20 for other courses.
