Bangalore, Jun 6:  A ten-year-old child was brutally murdered for her ornaments. This unfortunate incident took place in the DG Halli police limits on Sunday evening.

Bhavya alias Ramya (10) was lured by a housemaid, Rekha (22) to her home.  After removing the child's ornaments, Rekha suspected that Ramya might report the matter to her parents. Fearing this risk, Rekha took the child to the nearby graveyard inChinnanna Layout and murdered her by stabbing with a knife.

Obviously to destroy all evidence, Rekha poured kerosene oil on the body and set it on fire. Some locals who witnessed the part of the heinous crime, informed the police station.  The police immediately rushed to the spot and took the body into possession. Later, they arrested Rekha.

Babu, a resident of Heggade Nagar and the father of the child, hearing the news came to the graveyard and identified the body of his daughter. Thereafter, the police took a written complaint from him and proceeded with the investigation.

The police said that Rekha has confessed to the the crime and has stated that she had murdered the child for the gold ornaments.  Rekha was married,but after a quarrel with her husband obtained divorce recently and was staying alone.  She has been working as housemaid in few houses in Heggade Nagar.
