Nandan Nilekani files nomination from Bangalore South

Bangalore, Mar 21: The Bangalore South Congress candidate Nandan Nilekani is among the 35 candidates who filed their nomination papers on the third day since commencement of filing the nomination papers on Friday.

On day three, as many as 35 candidates filed their papers from 18 Lok Sabha constituencies.

The total number of nomination papers received on day three was 49.

The total number of nomination papers received in the State according to Karnataka’s Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha was 135 from 85 candidates from 27 Lok Sabha constitutencies.

However, Chamarajnagar is yet to receive any nomination papers so far.

The other prominent persons who filed their nomination papers on Friday include V Dhananjay Kumar from JD(S) from Udupi-Chikmagalur, Goolihatti Shekar of JD(S) – Chitradurga, S S Mallikarjun from Congress – Davangere, Prakash Rathod – Congress (Bijapur), G M Siddeshwar of BJP from Davangere, S P Muddahanume Gowda (Tumkur) from Congress and Adagur H Vishwanath from Congress in Mysore.
 
Nandan Nilekani filed his nomination paper in BBMP office near Ashok Pillar Road in the City with his supporters lifting him on their shoulders with shouts of ''vote for Nandan,” and ''vote for Congress.”

''This is an important day for the people of Bengaluru, not just for me,' Nandan said, standing next to Rohini Nilekani and surrounded by Congress leaders.''I believe Bengaluru deserves leaders who are passionate about building a better city for each one of us,” he said.

''We deserve leaders who are not hungry for power, but want to do something good, something concrete,’ Nandan said, ‘We need leaders who will create opportunities for others.'

Nandan filed his nomination papers with the Returning Officer, Bangalore South. Nandan’s name was proposed by Ramalinga Reddy, and he was accompanied by Rohini Nilekani, M Krishnappa and R V Devraj.

'We are completely open about the wealth we have earned,' Rohini said while commenting on their asset declaration, 'because its hard-earned money, and we are transparent about every rupee. I believe that by doing this, we will encourage others to come forward and be more transparent about their wealth. It is important to bring more honesty into our politics.'

Several prominent leaders of the Congress Party visited Nandan to congratulate and show support.  This included the Co-Chairman, Campaign Committee KPCC D K Shiva Kumar, Bangalore Urban District In-charge Minister Ramalinga Reddy, Vijayanagar MLA Krishnappa and and Govindarajanagar MLA Priya Krishna, Chikpet MLA R V Devraj, Entrepreneur UB Venkatesh, Youth Congress Vice President, L S Chethan Gowda, Congress President Padmanabha Nagar constituency, M C Venugopal, Dr B Gurappa Naidu, Prof Rajeev Gowda, Corporators Uday Shankar, G N R Babu and several other leaders.

The police and election authorities seized Rs 47 lakh cash in Byatarayanapura assembly constituency and another Rs 26 lakh in Chamarajanagara on Thursday night.

As many as 10 bundles of sarees, cricket bats, cookers, 10 boxes of wall clocks and another 227 sarees were seized, Anil Kumar Jha said.
