Islamabad, March 24 (IANS): Two members of the Sikh community who were kidnapped from the city of Dera Ismail Khan in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, have been released.
The two captives Savendar Singh and Anand Singh were kidnapped Feb 11 and were released Sunday after a local jirga (assembly of tribal elders) negotiated with the unknown captors and also probably paid them a ransom, the Dawn Online reported.
Anand Singh, one of the abducted persons, said he and Savender were kidnapped at gunpoint while they were at work in Dera Ismail Khan by 10 masked gunmen riding motorbikes.
Anand Singh, however, denied reports stating that they were released after payment of ransom.
Soran Singh, special assistant to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister, said the two captives were kept in the town of Mir Ali in the North Waziristan province of Pakistan.
