Pakistan government-Taliban direct talks postponed


Islamabad, March 25 (IANS): The direct talks between the Pakistan government and the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) shura, scheduled for Tuesday, have been postponed due to bad weather conditions.

Jamaat-i-Islami Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief and member of the Taliban committee Mohammad Ibrahim confirmed the news of the postponement of the direct talks due to bad weather, which was making it impossible for members to travel.

He said this while addressing a meeting outside the Al-Markaz-i-Islami in Peshawar, Dawn online rported.

He also said that the negotiations on prisoners between the government and the Taliban would be very beneficial for peace talks.

The ceasefire between the Pakistan government and the Taliban was a major breakthrough and the second phase of the peace talks would add to further positive developments, he said.

The Dawn report, however, has not mentioned the next probable date for the peace talks.
