Beltangady: Thieves steal gold ornaments worth Rs 5 lac

Beltangady, Mar 29: Unknown thieves, who forced their entry into a house in Jainpete, Guruvayanakere near here late night on Thursday March 27, took away gold ornaments and cash worth around Rs 4.8 lac.

The thieves gained entry into the house belonging to Anantaraj Jain, chief executive officer of Cooperative Agricultural Bank of Guruvayabnakere residing in Jainpete past midnight on Thursday. It has transpired that they had used wooden pieces to bend the window rods of Jain’s house. Once inside, they broke open the locks of steel cupboard, sifted through contents, and took away various gold ornaments found inside. In addition to ornaments, which have been valued at Rs 4.5 lac, a cell phone, as well as cash amounting to Rs 15,000 were stolen.

Sniffer dogs were pressed into service. Policemen from Beltangady station as well as senior police officers visited the spot and guided investigation.
