Udupi, Apr 1: The manifesto of the district BJP was released at the party office here on Tuesday April 1 by senior BJP leader Somashekar Bhat.
Former MLA Raghupati Bhat, BJP district president Thingale Vikramarjuna Hegde, Uday Kumar Shetty and others were present.
Following are some of the major points in BJP manifesto:
Port
- Development of new commercial port on the lines of Gujarat model
- Free trade based in the port
- Development of basic facilities at the port
Fisheries
- Satellite supported information.
- New hi-tech model fishing port will be developed.
- A special fisheries economic zone will be created and fisheries produce will be evaluated.
Action to mitigate natural calamities
Action will be taken for effective measures to mitigate the impact of natural calamities.
Measures will be taken to prevent loss of life during calamities. Assistance will be made available to prevent further damage in the event of natural disasters. Preventive measures will be taken against sea erosion.
Water Resources
- A water grid will be constructed joining all the rivers that are flowing from coastal region towards west in order to make water available for drinking, agriculture and industries for 24 hours in a day.
- An all season water way will be constructed between Mangalore and Karwar.
Health
- Udupi and Mangalore district hospitals will be provided with super specialty grade facilities. - There will be provision for direct interaction between the hospital management and specialists for development of facilities.
- An Air Ambulance facility will be provided in Udupi and Chikmagalur district.
- All class of people in the society will be covered by health insurance.
- Monitoring of all health related records in the two districts.
- Immediate medical facilities will be made available in the instances of accidents.
Employment
- The unemployment problems in the two districts will be solved on priority basis. Development centers will be started for the purpose and the employed will be provided jobs only through them. Women will be given training in driving autos and it will be tried to have special auto stands for them.
Agriculture and horticulture
- Areca, coffee and coconut farmers will be extended cooperation.
- Farmers and horticulturists will be provided with water irrigation.
- Agriculturists under cooperative movement will be encouraged.
- Health insurance and crop insurance facilities will be simplified.
- Areca farmers will be encouraged as per Gorakh Singh report.
Areca, and Kalasa Inam land
- The attempt by UPA government to ban areca will be stayed.
- The welfare of farmers in Kalasa in Chikmagalur district who are doing agriculture in Inam land will be protected.
- A special package will be passed for areca growers affected by yellow disease.
- Special attempt will be made to loosen up Kasturirangan report.
Roads and basic facilities
- Work on Padubidri-Karkal-Moodigere-Chikmagalur express highway construction will be set in motion.
- A new broad gauge railway tracks will be laid in between Nandikoor-Karkal-Moodigere.
- An independent aerodrome will be constructed for Udupi district.
- An M R O hub will be constructed in the aerodrome.
- A new Udupi railway division of Konkan Railways will be formed for Ullal to Madgaon.
Electricity
- Continuous electricity will be provided in Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency. - Varahi and UPCL units will be provided electricity on priority basis.
City Development
Udupi and Chikmagalur districts will be developed under future prime minister Narendra Modi's 100 Smart Cities project.
Education
- A world class university will be started at Chikmagalur
- Udupi will be developed as the center of international studies.
- Attempts will be made not to have different syllabus across districts and it will be updated.
Tourism
- World class facilities will be provided for development of religious and natural tourism in Udupi and Chikmagalur.
- The natural beauty spots in Malnad and coastal regions will be identified and converted as tourist destinations.
- Beaches will be improved.
Security
- Mobile supported facilities based on 108 Ambulance model will be implemented for women and young girls during emergencies.
- Precautions will be taken to prevent destruction by terrorists similar to 26/11. Security in the coastal region wil be upgraded with modern technology.
- The assistance for Naxal affected regions will be properly utilized.
- Law will be amended for punishments for rapes.
Environment
- All the shortcomings in the CRZ law will be rectified.
- The law will be made people friendly.
- The western ghats will be removed from the list of world heritage sites and the fear of people in 156 revenue districts in Chikmagalur will be allayed.
