Election Commission warns CM Mamata: Can cancel Lok Sabha polls in Bengal if transfer orders defied

Kolkata, Apr 8 : The Election Commission has said that it might cancel the Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal if the state government doesn’t comply with its order on transfer of the officials.

This comes after The Indian Express reported about the defiant stand of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Banerjee had on Monday had defied EC orders, saying she would “not remove a single officer” and was ready to face the consequences.

Mamata’s remarks came hours after the poll panel ordered the transfer of five superintendents of police and three district magistrates and additional district magistrates.

In its communication to the state chief secretary, the EC ordered the transfer of Birbhum SP Alok Rajoria, West Midnapore SP Bharati Ghosh, Murshidabad SP Humayun Kabir, Burdwan SP M H Mirza, Malda SP R K Yadav, North 24 Parganas DM Sanjay Bansal, Mathurapur Addl DM Alokesh Prasad Roy and West Midnapore Addl DM Arindam Dutta. In its letter, the EC said the officials should be transferred to “non-election related and non-field” posts by Tuesday.

However, the TMC supremo challenged the EC saying, “I will not remove a single officer. Let the EC come and arrest me. I throw this challenge to the EC. I will put in my resignation… I want to see how the EC takes charge of the state’s law and order. I will not be responsible if Jangalmahal is on fire again. How can they transfer so many officers without consulting the state government.”

ECI is working under central govt. and congress govt. is in power now. Except for the short period of Sheshadri tenure, ECI is being used by central govt. for their personal agenda.

That is how today's.... "Indian Politics" works.!!!

    Simple arithmetic...no rocket science, bro.....

Every regional party leaders think they have a great say(their pie!!!) regionally and when it comes to national level (parliament) they become "King Makers" in today's fractured mandate for the two main national parties of our country, whatever may be their reasons best known to the electorate.!!!

So to have a stable government at the Center we won't have a majority for any single party.

Indian Democracy is at the crossroads today at the hands of Regional Leaders and one has to accept the fact.

Mamata's "Track Record" is the best in threats!!!

This lady aspires to be the PM of the country. One dreads to think What the fate of the country will be if people like Mamata and Jayalalitha become PM's. They will surely take us back to the stone ages. In Bengal we have the so called intellectuals supporting her. I look at them as intellectually bankrupt.

    Jude,
She can't do anything worser if she becomes the PM, than what Indira Gandhi did when she was!
IG was the pinnacle of dictatorship, mind in politics. no one can beat her in that regard.

Why is the EC silent on Gujrath, Rajastan, MP and other BJP ruled States. Just because in Bengal BJP is not getting any seats does not mean EC should get so frustrated.
