Mumbai, Apr 13 (Mumbai Mirror) : A 19-year-old Vasai resident stabbed his father with a sickle on Saturday evening, while the latter was assaulting his mother.
The Manickpur police have arrested the accused, Mayank Kumravat, who said the scuffle was disturbing his IIT exam preparation. The family lives in Bhuri Complex, Om Nagar, Manickpur.
The deceased, Mukesh Kumravat (49), was a civil engineer and worked with a Virar-based firm. The family had been staying in the area since 2000 and had migrated from Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
Mayank had scored nearly 85 per cent marks in the HSC exams in 2013 and had appeared for an IIT entrance test, but did not succeed at the time. He was trying to take the exam again this year.
PI K Hegaje said Mukesh was an alcoholic and used to assault his wife Vinita (40) on a regular basis.
On Saturday evening, Mukesh was assaulting Vinita yet again and Mayank could not bear it any more.
"In a fit of rage, Mayank went to the kitchen, picked up a sickle and stabbed Mukesh in his head, cheeks, neck and other body parts. Mukesh died on the spot. Some neighbours heard the screams and came rushing to find Mukesh lying in a pool of blood. They saw Mayank with a sickle in his hand and immediately called the police," said PI Hegaje.
"When we entered the house, we saw Vinita wailing in a corner, while a dazed Mayank was sitting besides Mukesh's body. He did not offer any resistance when we arrested him. He has been booked under Section 302 (murder) of India Penal Code (IPC) and will be produced before a holiday court on Sunday," he added.
