Dear readers,

Our exclusive feature ‘They Rolled Bidis to Complete SSLC...But Future Stands Bleak' by our correspondent Vinod Prem Lobo (Viju Mangalore) dated June 19 has generated immediate and immense response.

The story brought to our readers the plight of four youngsters who completed their SSLC studies by earning the expenses by rolling bidis.

In no time, the Daijiworld office was flooded with enquiries. Indiscriminate of caste, creed and class, a large number of our readers, as it is usual in every genuine and humanitarian case, have come forward to take care of the educational expenses of these less fortunate members of our society.

Some of them have even suggested that Daijiworld should take the initiative of starting a fund for them, where they can also pool in their contributions.

While we thank our readers for the immense trust they have placed in us, because of administrative and other limitations, it may not be possible for us to take upon this responsibility. While this is being given a deep thinking, we are glad to inform our readers that the Mangalore office is already in touch with these deserving candidates, and is working out as how best our readers' help can be put to their use direct, constructively and purposefully.

Help is being sought from a few like-minded contributors from Mangalore who could assist us in reaching to other children passing through similar circumstances.

The parents of the students neither have bank accounts or any mode of communication. Thus details where the funds can be sent will be made available shortly. We once again thank our readers for their generosity and the faith they have in us as also for their sense of social commitment.

While Daijiworld highlighted the plight of four children, there are several deserving children in touch with Daijiworld whose future also goes bleak due to lack of funds for education.

The support shown by our readers stands above all. This is not the first time that a genuine cause has received a humane response. We thank the magnanimity of our readers.
