Mangalore, Jun 21: The controversy surrounding a tiff between mayor K Ashraf and commissioner Dr Chandrappa reached its pinnacle on Wednesday June 21 with the sudden and unexpected transfer of Dr Chandrappa .

As reported earlier mayor had intervened and stopped commissioner from evicting petty shop operating on the footpaths at State Bank on Wednesday June 14.  This move by the mayor had put him in loggerheads with Commissioner Dr Chandrappa.

On the next day Dr Chandrappa had lodged a complaint with the SP and asked to provide security which was immediately accepted.  So a gunman was appointed for his security.

Enter Krishnappa...Exit Chandrappa

Meanwhile politicians who are often good in catching fish in troubled waters got into act and started blaming each other.  While Congress stood by the mayor, both BJP and JD (S) backed the commissioner. The community which is represented by Dr Chandrappa rallied around him. A few press conferences were held too.  Media was not far behind in grabbing this opportunity.  While some newspapers dwelt at length on the present issue, some even came up for the rescue of one person.  There were demands that mayor should apologize to the commissioner.

In the meantime both Dr Chandrappa and K Ashraf were seen sitting and chatting together during a formal function which even raised the question whether the both were having problems with each other.

However, all these things have now been laid to rest with the sudden transfer of Dr Chandrappa. He has been appointed commissioner of Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA).  One Krishnappa Poojary has been appointed commissioner of MCC and he has already taken charge. Ironically Krishnappa Poojary was an officer with MUDA.  So an official barter system has calmed down the controversy for the time being.

However, reliable sources from MCC while speaking to Daijiworld said that though Krishnappa has already taken charge, he might soon be replaced by CM’s candidate Akshay Kumar.  The sources also said that Akshay Kumar is all slated to take charge as new MCC commissioner and is only awaiting a final approval from chief minister H D Kumaraswamy.
