Agency report

Manama, Jun 23: An Indian worker held for alleged sexual assault in Bahrain was Wednesday released by the police after his company apologised to the victim on his behalf.

The company also assured the police that the man would be deported if he committed the same crime on anyone again, the Gulf Daily News reported.

Thirty four-year-old Filipina, mother of two, was allegedly assaulted at her workplace in Manama, where the Indian man had gone to deliver some bills. She was alone in office at the time.

Soon after the incident, the woman filed a complaint with the police and the man was arrested from his office, the report said.

The man denied the allegation claiming that the Filipina woman was the one who made advances.

When the case went before a judge, the victim and her family agreed to settle the matter out of court.

‘They don’t want money, all they want is an apology and the man’s company has already apologised on his behalf,’ a friend of the victim was quoted as saying.
