Dubai, Jun 24: The summer holidays are arriving, and residents are busy booking tickets and planning their itineraries.

Travel agents and airline officials have urged passengers to keep the weight of their luggage within the limits for a trouble-free journey. Gulf News checked out baggage allowances offered by various airlines to help passengers.

According to International Air Transport Association (IATA) rules, the weight of each item should not exceed 32kg.

Though the maximum luggage limit per passenger is mentioned as 20kg on tickets, many airlines adopt a flexible approach in order to cater to their customers.

"The ticket does say 20kg, but we have to cater to our customers, who usually carry a lot of luggage, said Fatima Bangash, a travel agent for Pakistan International Airlines.

Various airlines allow passengers to carry up to 50kg. Passengers cannot exceed the luggage quotas set by various airlines.

Passengers travelling to Asia are able to carry more luggage than their counterparts travelling to European destinations, while business class passengers are given an additional allowance of about 10kg
