Students will now have the privilege of opening a bank account without a deposit, according to a scheme introduced by Syndicate Bank here. The scheme, 'Synd Vidyarthi' is exclusively for students and allows them to withdraw cash up to Rs 10,000.

This was revealed by Syndicate Bank chief executive director C P Swarnakara at a press conference at Manipal on Friday June 23. He also said that parents of the students will be informed about the accounts but the scheme does not carry any conditions or clauses with it.

The Bank has introduced another scheme, 'Synd Senior' for retired employees of public sector firms. Under this scheme, a member can avail a loan up to Rs 50,000 and have 6 years to pay it back.

Another scheme, 'Synd Samaya' for students with personal accounts has benefits like no restriction on deposits and cash withdrawals and encashment of cheques without fee. Under this scheme, an account can be kept active even with a balance of Rs 5, he said.

The Bank also introduced 'Synd Nivas plus' scheme for the benefit of house loan customers.

Mobile publicity vans were also launched on the occasion. Depending on their, the publicity vans will be introduced in surrounding states and in north India, Swarnakara said.
