Modi dares EC to 'file another case' against him

Asansol, May 4 (NDTV): BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Sunday hit back at the Election Commission (EC) -- which had earlier ordered the filing of a First Information Report against him for violating election laws -- and dared it to file "another case against him".

While addressing an election rally in Asansol in West Bengal, Mr Modi took on the EC, saying, "You have failed to stop rigging. False cases have been filed against (Asansol BJP candidate) Babul (Supriyo). The EC must do its duty".

"Once again, I am saying that in Bihar and Bengal, the same thing will happen: rigging and violence. You have the machinery, why don't you do your duty? If the EC doesn't like what I am saying, they can file another case against me," said Mr Modi.

Mr Modi had earlier been pulled up by the EC for taking a selfie with the BJP's election symbol, a lotus, and then addressing the media after casting his vote at the polling booth in Ahmedabad on April 30.

"It is evident from Modi's tone and tenor that he made a political speech. He intended, calculated to influence voting today," the Election Commission had said, adding that the BJP leader had broken the law by campaigning in a polling area.

A FIR was subsequently registered against Mr Modi and the television channels which had covered him during the event.

Reacting to the EC's action against him, Mr Modi had caustically observed, "In my entire life, not even a single FIR has been registered against me, not even for driving a scooter on the wrong side or for wrong parking. I will never forget April 30."

The poll watchdog, he said, has all the government machinery at its disposal and more powers than even the prime minister.

"Then why are you not acting? It is your responsibility to ensure impartial polls. I am making very serious allegations," Mr Modi said.

"Democracy doesn't work like this. I know that in the elections on May 30 how much rigging took place. Will this game go on," he said.

Mr Modi recalled that he had said in Uttar Pradesh too that in some areas problems relating to the polls would take place.

"But the Election Commission could do nothing. Today I am saying it again. Is it not the responsibility of the Election Commission that elections should be peaceful," he added.

Dont talk in air & fly communal kites & spew venom. Minorities in BJP ruled states are much better than in Congress ruled states. Remember Congress still sees Muslims as vote banks only, hence no development is offered.

In west Bengal, all opposition parties are crying foul. So many booth rigging and bogus voting. In UP also same case. In Maharastra more than 10 lac names missing in the voter list, for which CEC tendered apology. These cases show that there are lot of scope for CEC to improve the election process. Modi Just reminded them their duty. Otherwise, what is the point in having election? Unfortunately majority of people who commented cant see this simple argument. Really surprised to see how you people are supporting democracy. In fact I call all you people BIGGEST FEKU's.

If he or his camp wins, it is not a big win. B'coz, he is a frequent winner! who puraana khilaadi hai! he is khiladiyonka khiladi! he is the match fixer! he is the headmaster!
But if he loooooses, if he fail to become the PM - it is a very big loss! End of his road! No more chance. Then his position will be same like Advani - unwanted luggage!
Same time if Rahul baba loses, nothing lost. He is a student of Indian politics. He can write for supplementary exam. 2 time, 3 time. No problem. He have enough time. It is not the end of his road. It will be an U-turn for him. Only the thing is he has to make more home work. He can become a PM after 5 years or 10 years.

There have been more than 200 minority abusement & riots in UP since SP took over state. Why are you not protesting over it? Look at the 1984 anti Sikh riots. Who brought Emergency into the country in 1975? How many people were killed by policemen? Was Deve Gowda not a sitting CM of Karnataka when he was projected as PM of 3rd Front & took over as PM in 1996? You not only distort history, you have absolutely no idea of the current economic situation too. All these days I used to respect & read your comments as you used to write with authority, but now I find that you're writing filth with no meaning or respect whatsoever. You're venting out your frustration ever since LS 2014 polling started. Please understand that Congress did not win the Karnataka polls last year on its own, the split in opposition BJP, KJP, B gifted victory on a platter to Siddu. You're vociferously campaigning that time too on DW. Also please understand that RSS is not behind the Sikh Riots in 1984. Emergency was imposed by Congress in 1977 under Indira Gandhi. RSS was recognised as a national volunteer corps by Nehru & RSS participated in RD parade in 1966. Read the website or google for more on RSS ideology & patriotic contribution to this country. RSS & BJP are nationalists first, religion & community comes next to patriotic Hindus. Please understand these before unnecessarlily spewing venom on this portal with unwarranted & unjustified comments against RSS, BJP or Modi.
