Udupi, May 8: The indefinite protest by the CPI (M) at the service bus stand in the city entered its third day on Wednesday May 7, in an attempt to urge the government to stop the practice of 'Made Snana' and caste discrimination at Udupi Sri Krishna Math.

Amritha Shetty said during her speech that she does not believe in God, but in ‘Daiva’ (Demon). “ ‘Garodi’ is our culture. Our Tulu culture tells us not to give up the truth and religion. This is nothing but discrimination of humans in God’s name. If they do so, there is no meaning to humanity,” she added.

She further questioned what was meant by ‘Brahmanya’. Shetty said, “I do not believe in Hindu religion; Bunts are not Hindus. There are so many problems happening here but no organization is ready to protest strongly.”

She condemned the happenings at the Udupi temple and said, “Lord Krishna also belongs to the Shudra community. The entire Tulu folk come under the Shudra class.” Shetty urged the people to free themselves of the chains of such practices and accept that all are equal before God.

“The Pejawar Swami should learn to clean up the Math before propagating bias among Hindus,” she added.

B M Bhut, state leader, CPI(M), said, “In order to control the lower castes, they are practicing the ‘Pankthi Bheda’. If we are against such practices, they will label us anti-religious.”

Suresh Kalmadi, K Shivaram, K Shankar, Balakrishna Shetty ,and Amritha Kalaza were present.

It is pathetic to know that even in 21st century, such inhuman practice is observed. It should be stopped immediately.
