Bantwal, Jun 27: Two shops and a restaurant were damaged when the compound wall of Kambalabettu higher primary school collapsed owing to incessant rains on Sunday June 25.
The compound wall to the Kambalbettu School was built some 4 years ago with aid from ZP. However, the wall had developed cracks owing to rains this year. Having seen this, the shopkeepers who have shops in a complex adjacent to the compound wall had requested the school development committee to repair the wall.
However, the work was not undertaken in time. On Sunday the wall gave in and collapsed on the complex damaging a restaurant owned by one Sathish Shetty, a beedi branch of Abdul Khader and grocery shop of Padmanabh.
Since the tragedy occurred when the restaurant and shops were closed, no casualties were reported. However, Sathish Shetty who had incurred a loss of nearly Rs 25,000 filed a case with the Vittal police in this regard.
But the complaint was later taken back after the school development committee agreed to compensate the loss incurred by all three shop owners.
