State Legislature to have month-long session in June

Bangalore, May 10: Both houses of Karnataka legislature will have a month-long session from the third week of June.
This information was given by Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy.
Speaking to reporters in Bangalore on Thursday, Shankaramurhty said he and Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and discussed with on the issues regarding the state legislature session.

The Chief Minister has agreed to the suggestion on holding the session from third week of June, Shankaramurthy said.

He indicated that the legislature session is expected to be for a duration of 30 working days. 

As the State legislative Council hall, which is presently under renovation, Shankaramurthy said all the works are expected to be completed by June 10.

He said 3 seats in the Council are vacant.

The terms of another 4 members would end on June 20 and 9 more members on June 30.

Meanwhile, the State Legislative Council Privileges Committee submitted its report to Council Chairman D H Shankaramurthy on the alleged false information given to the House by Minister for Municipalities Administration Qamarul Islam on encroachment of Wakf properties in different parts of the State by various leaders.

Committee Chairman G Madhusudhan submitted the report to Shankaramurthy. 

Before the induction of Roshan Baig into the Cabinet, Qamarul Islam was holding the Wakf portfolio.

A press release said Qamarul Islam has provided wrong answers to a question asked by Captain Ganesh Karnik and K Monappa Bhandary on July 29, 2013. 

The matter was referred to the Privileges Committee after Opposition Chief Whip in the Council A H Shivayogiswamy moved a privilege motion against Qamarul Islam, who was then in charge of Wakf, for misleading the House by providing false information on the report related to encroachment of wakf properties.
