Manipuri student attacked in Delhi


New Delhi, May 12 (IANS): A 19-year-old Manipuri student was beaten up by four-five unidentified people here when he resisted their robbery attempt, police said Monday.

The incident took place Sunday night in Mukherjee Nagar area when Cham Pamei had gone there to meet some friends.

Pamei received injuries on his head in the attack but is said to be out of danger.

The attackers fled the spot upon seeing a motorcyclist passing by.

The motorcycle rider rushed the victim to the Bara Hindu Rao hospital and called police.

Pamei stays in Kotla Mubarakpur area of south Delhi and studies at NIIT.

There were widespread protests in Delhi and the northeastern states when 19-year-old Arunachal Pradesh student Nido Tania died Jan 30, a day after being beaten mercilessly by some shopkeepers in Lajpat Nagar in south Delhi.

This year, around 10 cases of attacks, rape and robbery have been reported against people from the northeast in the national capital.
