Kolkata, Jul 3: Extraordinary General Body Meeting of CAB to decide on the fate of Jagmohan Dalmiya, contesting the polls, ended in a stalemate.

Immediately after the meeting began, Mr Ajit Panja, who represented the High Court, asked the general body not to discuss on any other matter other than apprising the members about Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattachrjee's advice asking Dalmiya not to contest the poll this time.

Though former secretary of CAB Prasanta Gain wanted the matter to be discussed, it was finally not done as the opposition called it a personal matter of Dalmiya.

Later briefing the press, CAB joint secretaries Saradindu Paul and Amitava Banerjee said here, ''Agenda for today's meeting was to apprise the member about the Chief Minister's advice asking Mr Dalmiya not to contest the polls and that was done. We did not deem to prolong the discussion any further on whether Mr Dalmiya should contest as there was opposition from certain members.'' He further said that a working committe meeting has been called on July 5 to take a final decion on this matter.

He further said if necessary, the working committee would refer the matter to the general body for further discussion.

However, the EGM had a full house with 34 of the 37 first division clubs, 56 of 57 second division clubs, all 18 districts, seven out of eight University representatives and one sports office federation member, taking the total to 116 out of 121 members.

It was also learnt that Dalmiya had sent a 10-page reply to the Chief Minister on June 27 stating why apprehensions about the future of Bengal cricket were unfounded.

In the letter, Dalmiya had said while he was in opposition in BCCI, Eden Gardens got important tournaments like Hero Cup and World Cup finals and it would continue to get so.

Meanwhile, Ajit Panja said that the CAB representatives should sit with Mr Sharad Pawar in order to resolve the differences that exist.

He also since Dalmiya has not yet filed his nomination, it was no point discussing the matter and finally he thought city Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee was capable of running both the shows.

The EGM lasted for 15 minutes. The opposition was led by Samar Paul and Prasun Mukherkee, Ajit Panja, Raja Venkat and Snehasis Ganguly-all attended the meeting.
