Udupi, Jul 5: A group of activists held a novel protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office on Tuesday, Jul 4. The group arrived with several canines and began their protest against the rising stray dog menace in the city.
The members of Udupi Zilla Nagarika Samiti led the protest demanding action against the increasing number of stray dogs.
They also submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj and brought to his notice that the menace had grown unbearable. Several people have been victims of dog bites and quick action should be taken to ensure public safety, they requested.
The samiti had submitted a memorandum to the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) office. But the CMC said the Society for Prevention of Cruelty Against Animals was against elimination of stray dogs.
Receiving the memorandum Ponnuraj asked animal husbandry department to take necessary steps in this regard.
