DUBAI, July 6 — Domination of bad guys for long durations in Indian TV serials are having a negative impact, especially among children, viewers here say.
Speaking to Khaleej Times, several people said they are not happy over bad guys dominating for upto 20 to 40 episodes without giving viewers a quick relief. “In popular serials, I can feel the domination of bad guys more than the good guys. This will mislead the younger generation,” said Betsi Joseph, a Dubai resident.
“I used to watch serials always, and especially in summer time, as I prefer spending my spare time at home. But the excitement in these serials comes slow. In most of the popular serials, the bad guys hold an upper hand for a long time until the end, when the good guys enter,” she added.
She felt that the mega serial producers are intentionally making the serials this way so as to increase the number of episodes and make more money. “In the Western serials, the bad guys dominate for a few scenes and then, the good guys enter and they balance it well. The domination of good guys can give a good message to the viewers,” she said. “After all, we want to relax, by seeing these serials.”
Biju Ninan, another Indian national and resident of Dubai, said: “There is no fun if there are no quick twists in the story. But in Indian serials, we have to wait for 40 to 50 episodes to have a twist. Most of them have the same stories and the domination of bad guys goes on for a long time. Everybody knows that the good will win over evil, but the problem is they take such a long time to show it.”
A UAE national, who did not want to be named, said: “I love watching Bollywood movies. I started watching Hindi TV channels too, but I feel that the mega serials being telecast should be more subject-oriented. The usual trend in these serials are the same. The bad guys dominate the episodes for long, and then, a good guy enters into the scene.” He pointed out that the beauty of the serials should be the balance between the good side and the bad side and the success of good over the evil in the end.”
