Puttur: Two youths drown while playing in Kumaradhara river

Puttur, May 27: Bodies of two youths who were washed away by the waters of the Kumaradhara river bank in Nakuru Gaya, in Kodimbaala village were fished out on the morning of Monday May 26.

The incident occurred when the boys along with their families had gone to the river bank to have a look at the fish.

The deceased have been identified as Pawan (23), a resident of 102nd Nekkilady village, a electrician by profession in Mangalore and Vijay (30), a resident of Puttur Kasaba Karkunja village, an auto driver by profession.

The fire and emergency service personnel arrived at the spot and began the search operations, but the operation was delayed as the area was a bit incommodious with the presence of crocodiles in the region. Finally the experts from Tannir Bhavi were called and the bodies were fished out at 7 am on Monday.

The area of Nakurugaya along the banks of the river Kumaradhara is said to be too deep and there is a presence of devotional spirits in the region. Devotees from various places visit this region to fulfill their devotional needs.

Vijay and his family had visited Vishwanath Naik’s house to take part in a function. In their leisure time, the family decided to visit Naakurugya and take his blessings.

It is learnt that when they visited the river bank to offer food to the fish, Vijay and Pawan got a little far in the water from Gaya and were having a bath and playing. Vijay got stuck in the tides; Pawan who went to save him too was washed away by the tides.

DYSP H D Mendonca, circle inspector Suresh Kumar, Kadaba station house officer Yogeesh Kumar and Puttur taluk Tahashildar Kullegowda visited the spot.
