UK Konkans - Media Release
July 8, 2006: What do you call five guys, one having brain with passion and vision – Another soul with devotion – Another individual with go-getter attitude – And another with lets-do-it approach – And the last one with a selfless try-and-succeed approach? Plotters? Hatchers? They were simply visionaries.
They met discreetly in the dark corner on a fine evening of a celebrative day where the ambience was dynamic – food to tease your taste buds, drinks to make you feel high and dance in full flow. Yet there was something missing, something seriously absent. The individuals were discussing, planning, plotting and working hard to figure out what was amiss. It was nothing but interaction and opportunity for the audience to part-take in the proceedings.
Yes, the heads rolled and concluded. They unanimously decided to form an association that would be the benchmark Konkani speaking people living in the United Kingdom. Rightly so, it was called UK Konkans.
UK Konkans – the name explains it all – An organisation exclusively for all konkani speaking people who have made the UK their country of habitat.
In a land where time is measured in terms of pounds, it is seldom that you see a group so vibrant and excelling to give their best for Konkani. It is a rare achievement that within a short span from its conception to today, UK Konkans boasts of hosting over half a dozen events in the UK for the Konkani speaking people.
Since its founding, UK Konkans has been actively working with Konkani people living in the UK and the world wide, attempting to bring as many of them together through various activities. In the past 18 months they have organised half a dozen events.
The year 2006 saw the beginning of a new UK Konkans with a new and focussed organisation committee. The organisation has planned to host Konkan Day on 29th July in an attempt to give the Konkani population a unique opportunity like never before. The event is promising many activities and fun, music and plays and the main event will be the famous “Ramalingam”, a short play written by well known writer Benna Ruzai.
UK Konkans invites all Konkani lovers to attend the day and make the best of it. It will be a day to remember for a long time to come and an opportunity not to be missed at any cost.
