Family of 18 trapped in Gurgaon hotel lift, bouncers held

Gurgaon, May 27 (IANS): Eighteen members of a family, including women and children, were trapped inside a lift at a deluxe hotel here, police said Tuesday. Two bouncers of the hotel were arrested for endangering lives.

The family from Sushant Lok had gone to the hotel on the Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road for dinner. While returning around 11.45 p.m. Monday, they were trapped inside the lift for nearly an hour.

The family members, including four women -- one of them pregnant -- and children, were badly shaken and experienced discomfort as the fan of the lift was switched off by the hotel staff, police officer Sachin Kumar told IANS.

The hotel's bouncers did not help the trapped family saying the lift was overloaded by the number of people in it, he said.

The family informed the police control room, and a police team reached the spot and evacuated them after breaking the glass of the lift door on the ground floor.

Two bouncers tried to stop the police from breaking the glass.

Ravi, 27, and Anil, 25, were arrested for causing hurt by endangering life or personal safety of others, disobedience to order promulgated by public servant, criminal intimidation and common intent.

The complaint was registered on the complaint of Jogendra Bisla.

The accused were Tuesday presented in the court of judicial magistrate Ashok Kumar and were sent to judicial custody.
