Mumbai, May 29: Tulu-Kannadiga origin Gopal C Shetty made the city proud with his thumping victory in the recently held Lok Sabha elections from the North Mumbai constituency. After Narendera Modi, the Prime Ministerial candidate, Gopal Shetty was the one who won the election with the highest number of votes.
Gopal C Shetty got 6,64,004 votes. He sealed his success by getting about 4,46,582 votes more than the incumbent Congress MP Sanjay Nirupam. Nirupam secured 2,17,422 votes while Sathish Jain of the Aam Aadmi Party received 32,364 votes.
If politics is social work, Gopal Shetty is at the right place. Hailing from Udupi–Padubidri town, he worked for the issues related to social concern ever since his childhood days. He is the only Tulu-Kannadiga who was elected as a BJP candidate for a second time as a MLA; apart from the latest victoryh he has worked as the president of the Mumbai area too.
BJP leader Yermal Harish Shetty thanked the voters for accepting Tulu-Kannadigas organization’s request to think about the change. He also thanked all the leaders of the alliance parties including BJP, all the workers of the party who worked for the success actively, all the leaders of the organizations–institutions including Tulu-Kannadigas who encouraged his selection by conducting meetings at various places, office bearers–members and all the well-wishers.
