Moodubelle, July 9: The first cup awarding ceremony of the ICYM commenced on Sunday afternoon in St Lawrence parish Hall Moodubelle.

Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza of Mangalore presided over the function. President Raviraj D'Souza welcomed the guests and the gathering. Gen secretary Michael Rodrigues presented the annual report of the year 2005-06.


Cup secretary Harun Mathais presented the Cup Report of the year 2005-06 and also gave introduction of the renovated cup book. The Bishop released the renovated version of the Cup Book.

In his presidential address he said, "Catholic youth should follow the steps of Jesus Christ and not deviate from Christian values." After the departure of the Bishop, Shinto Varghese, president of the ICYM, Karnataka Region, addressed and appreciated the youth for organizing this function in a great way.


Later lady animator Sr Roseline Periera was felicitated on the eve of her departure from her post as she will be moving to Italy for higher studies. Felicitation was done by Episcopal vicar Dr Valerian D'Souza. Sr Roseline thanked everybody for the kind of support extended to her during her term..

Chief guest of the function and minister of medical education Dr V S Acharya, addressing the youth said,  "Youth should cultivate an attitude of selfless service,". He also added that there had been a substantial contribution by the Catholic community towards the development of undivided Dakshina Kannada district. 
 


Another chief guest Dr Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva's Education Foundation, Moodbidri said, "Whatever the caste, religion we belong to, first point we should remember is we are all Indians". He recalled the selfless service of Mother Teresa, who served the poor and weaker sections of the society. He urged the youth to work to their full capacity and pay back to the society what they have got from it.

Shinto Varghese distributed the mementoes to the donors, well-wishers and the president of the host unit (Moodubelle).

Fr Peter Pinto conducted the new office bearers' induction ceremony. He announced the new office-bearers' names who have been elected during the IIIrd annual general meeting.


The names of the new office bearers' for the official year 2006-07 are as follows:

President: Maxim D'sa, Moodubelle.
Vice president: Ashwin Roch, Kolalgiri.
Lady vice president: Lavina D'Souza, Shirva
Joint secretary: Kennil Aranha, Pangla
Treasurer: Sohan D'souza, Pangla.
Amcho Yuvak Rep.: Edwin D'souza, Kanajar
Cup secreatary: Cyprian Castelino, Moodubelle.

The office-bearers of 2005-06 handed over their positions to the respective new office-bearers. Outgoing president Raviraj D'souza expressed his gratitude for all kind of support to him during his tenure. He handed over a burning candle to Maxim. Accepting the president's position he sought from everyone the same kind of support, which has been extended to the departing President.

Episcopal Vicar appreciated the work done by the departing office bearers' and wished all the best to the new Executive committee members.


The Cup distribution ceremony was held in presence of Episcopal vicar, Shinto Varghese and Jaison Soares, president of ICYM, Mangalore Central Council, along with the new office-bearers.






The list of cup award winning units is as follows:

Excellent Unit: Pamboor.
Ist Best Unit: Moodubelle
IInd Best Unit: Belman
Ist Model Unit: Shirva
II Model Unit: Kolalgiri
III Model Unit: Pangla
IV Model Unit: Katapady
V Model Unit: Mudarangady.

The units were given a rolling Trophy and certificate, also the presidents and Secretaries of these 8 units were also honoured on the occasion.
Outgoing general secretary Michael proposed the vote of thanks.
