New Delhi, Jul 11: For Rachna, a girl from Bihar’s Darbhanga, nightmare began when she met her prospective match, Delhi-based Indian Foreign Services officer Amit Mishra.

The couple’s engagement ceremony was solemnised in June last year in a temple in Delhi and Rachna's family spent beyond their means - Rs 1.5 lakh - just on the celebrations. Rachna was to tie the knot with Amit on March 6 this year.

Officer, the betrayer: Rachna's parents spent a huge sum on her engagement with Amit.

“We took loans. We gave whatever they asked for," Rachna's father says.

During the eight-month phase, Rachna and Amit kept in constant touch with each other and came closer via emails and SMS.

But the real shocker came in December last year when the wedding date was fixed.

The groom's family demanded a dowry of Rs one crore, failing which, the marriage was suspended.

"I am engaged to Amit. We have been in constant touch for eight months This is a breach of trust," Rachna says.

But there was more bad news in store for Rachna. After a few months, she came to know that Amit had married elsewhere.

Insulted and cheated, Rachna approached Chief Judicial Magistrate in Darbhanga and National Commission for Women in March. But to no avail.

"Unfortunately, I came to know of the incident only yesterday. I assure her all help," NCW Chairperson, Girija Vyas says.

When CNN-IBN team went to Amit's house in Delhi, his brother and uncle were visibly shaken.

They did not let the team meet Amit, but it was evident that he had married someone else and had not even returned the money taken from Rachna's father.

Meanwhile, Rachna is determined to fight till the end to get justice.

"I will fight for my rights. Even if it means going to ministries and NCW, I want a comprehensive inquiry," she says.
